Funmate
cars are about 1/34 scale and were offered as free promotional
items packaged inside consumer products, such as powdered laundry
detergent, in the 1970s. In addition to Mustangs, Funmate cars
were modeled after Mercury Montegos, Ford Thunderbirds, Ford
Mavericks, Mercury Cougars and Ford Torinos. They came with
one of two different launchers - the hand-held one shown or
a spring-loaded catapult platform. |

Description:
This
small plastic Mustang features free-wheeling wheels
and a companion plastic launcher. The metal rod on the
launcher is inserted into a hole in the rear of the
car. As the rod is pushed into the car, it compresses
a metal spring inside the car. When the launcher is
fully inserted in the car, a grab hook on the launcher
automatically slips into a notch under the car, holding
it until the car is ready for launch. Push the black
lever forward with your thumb to disengage the hook,
sending the car racing across the floor.
