Buddy
L toys was named after the son of the owner of the company,
Fred Lundahl. When the company started in 1910, it made auto
and truck parts. In 1921, it branched out into making hardy
toys with moving parts. The company also made toy cars, dump
trucks, delivery vans, fire engines, and construction equipment.
The manufacturer marketed the toys to boys, claiming “They appeal
to boys because they really work.” The company's golden age
was the 1920s and 30s when it enjoyed success as one of the
country's top toy builders. Both pressed steel Mustangs below
were manufacturered in Japan, where many Buddy L toys were later
produced. In 2002, Los Angeles-based Imperial Toy Corporation
acquired all of Buddy L's assets. It continues today making
toys under the Buddy L name. |

Description:
The
Buddy L Red 1967 Mustang GT is the most popular of these
two cars. The heavy gauge pressed steel cars feature
free-rolling whitewall plastic tires and wheels, metal
bottoms and white plastic interiors enclosed by clear
plastic windows. Adding to the car's sportiness were
a pair of black hood stripes.

Description:
The
Buddy L Green 1967 Mustang GT is identical to the car
on the left except for color. The green version is the
harder to find version of these two cars, primarily
because the best seller by far in toy stores was the
red version.
